This website shows different insights on problems/crimes in the five boroughs of New York City. We gather data from NYC as a whole and also from the five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens. We use visualizations in each page to analyze things that may be beneficial to know when visiting or analyzing issues in NYC.
Our website demo video is to the left. You see a walk through of our different pages and why we placed them there. You also see how to efficiently navigate through and use the links for your advantage.
Throughout this project and website, we learned about many important aspects of crime in New York City. We looked at shootings that took place in each borough and learned which borough in NYC is highest for shootings. We also learned things related to car crashes and hate crimes. We saw how frequent these happened and why they did. We learned how to format and create websites using html. We also learned how to input our visualizations from google colab into the website. Throughout our time working on this project, we also grew and practiced our skills learned in class in terms of gathering data, parsing/cleaning it, and making it into meaningful visualizations. We identified trends and insights on our graphs and developed conclusions based on them.
The two students who made this website and the visualizations present throughout this website are Kelly Barros and Mary Soltis. We are freshmen students at the University of Notre Dame. We are both studying Finance and planning on either double majoring or getting a minor. Kelly is from New York and Mary is from Minnesota.
